I have done some work with a tiny PIC to decode Lacrosse sensors, works absolutely great using Aurel 433MHz receivers: good range, very reliable. A more generic and versatile networked version would be awesome.

I do not have experience on purely graphical VFDs, but I will study the Noritake specs when I have a moment; AFAIK the way to talk to graphical VFDs might be less standardized than the 'classic' character LCD command set, which might be an issue when creating a generic LCD backpack...

Bus Pirate Support / Bootloader update with a Pickit2
Just a quick note to let you know that indeed, the PGC and PGD lines are "crossed" on the Bus Pirate which makes it a bit more complex to use the Pickit2: if those two pins were the other way around, you could just plug a pickit2 into the Bus Pirate directly, but sadly that's not the case. A simple adapter which crosses the PGC and PGD lines solves the issue and programming works fine afterwards...
