... and to live up to my word: I changed the UART initialisation a little bit, so that the port number & speed is passed to it, just like with the other classes (SPI, etc). More consistent.

Bus Pirate Support / Python binary library
I am writing a small test script to display bitmaps from GIF pictures to a VFD display using the binary mode library and Python: but when using the UART mode, it seems to me a few things are hardwired into the lib, such as the port name. Any chance I could get access to SVN and update this, so that the API is consistent for all binary mode calls using pyBusPirateLite ? Let me know if I got something wrong, of course!

Hi Sjaak, I'm very much looking forward to one of the features of your updates: the ability to send ASCII codes as "string", it is very useful since at the moment, the only way to type ascii commands on the bus pirate is to put it into transparent UART mode which you cannot get out of without resetting...

-> If you are looking for testers, I am willing to try, any risks involved ? :)

Web platform / Re: Further Web Platform Possibilities?
A nice application would be to hook the web platform to a 433MHz / 868MHz receiver to receive & decode data from standard (read 'cheap') weather sensors such as Lacrosse or Oregon Scientific. Then using a LCD you could display the data, store it on the SD card, and also send it (over UDP packets, or using SNMP ?) over the network. Some sort of standalone generic weather receiver. There are also home power meters which use 433MHz transmitters, the possibilities are actually quite large. I just got a Noritake semi-graphical VFD as well, to do some limited trend graphing on the screen (140x32 pixels).

I have done some work with a tiny PIC to decode Lacrosse sensors, works absolutely great using Aurel 433MHz receivers: good range, very reliable. A more generic and versatile networked version would be awesome.

Isn't there a developer's version of this PIC which accepts more programming cycles?

I do not have experience on purely graphical VFDs, but I will study the Noritake specs when I have a moment; AFAIK the way to talk to graphical VFDs might be less standardized than the 'classic' character LCD command set, which might be an issue when creating a generic LCD backpack...

Bus Pirate Support / Bootloader update with a Pickit2
Hi all,

  Just a quick note to let you know that indeed, the PGC and PGD lines are "crossed" on the Bus Pirate which makes it a bit more complex to use the Pickit2: if those two pins were the other way around, you could just plug a pickit2 into the Bus Pirate directly, but sadly that's not the case. A simple adapter which crosses the PGC and PGD lines solves the issue and programming works fine afterwards...
