Thanks for the input, all. I'm just needing something for hobby/tinkering. I don't know what specs i will need, as i haven't run into a direct need for one yet, but i know i eventually will, so i was looking to get one to stock my workbench with (as long as it's not too expensive). I've looked at the DS1052E per your suggestion and it looks like a good unit. I'll have to compare it to the others you guys mentioned, but at least i have a decent starting point from others that actually know what they are doing
I currently have a BP and OLS, but was wondering if anyone out there can make a suggestion. Do you think it would be worthwhile to purchase a DSO Nano or DSO Quad? Or are there any other small (i.e. cheap) scopes out there worth having? Or would you think there's enough advantage over the OLS to even consider one of these?
Have you played around with it any? It definitely sparked some interest from me. Now to only get time i can actually sit down and play with all my tech gadgets... real life getting in the way
Any idea of a price range you think they will be in? I know OLED screens are typically expensive, but i would probably be up for at least one screen/board
I've never tried to solder SMD chips, and was wondering if one of you guys can recommend some low cost smd soldering learning kits, or suggestions on where to start learning? do i need a special ultra small tip on my iron? I've always been a through-hole kinda guy, but want to expand my options.
I would be interested in at least checking out what kind of code you guys have come up with so far. I haven't had a chance to play with mine, but when things settle down a bit and i can play i would definitely contribute.
I am also a beginner, and would like a experimenters board that i could use to test out both the BP's capabilities and my capabilites as i learn with it.
Even though I just purchased a BP, and haven't had time to use it yet, I would prefer that rather than removing any features, that another BP with more flash come out and I would purchase it too. Leave the current one at a stable version with only bug fixes from now on, and have new development on the new (bigger flash) one. I would also recommend leaving even the unpopular modes (such as PC Keyboard) still being a feature in the new BP. Unless absolutely necessary, I don't like to see any hardware/software platform have a degredation in featureset.
I would also like to see (if the solution is a new BP with more flash) a user swappable flash to "futureproof" it. Whether it is a socket, or unsoldering/resoldering a through hole component, it doesn't matter to me. I think keeping it one or the other (not surface mount) would let the largest population of the users be able to upgrade it themselves.
I would purchase this while purchasing other things from Seeed. I probably would not create a purchase just for it, but if i'm buying other things, i would definitely throw it in my cart assuming it stays in the ~10 range.
So, you say measure from the base of the transistor? Any reason why you would want to measure there rather than on the other side of the resistor that it is connected to (assuming that the base is on the side with only one connection)?
Well... i'll start playing tonight (don't have a lot of time, but i'll try and get SUMP working). I have a blog, or are in the process. I need to set up my web server, and will be running a blog on it. I can post all my learnings here and on my blog. I just didn't want to hijack the Noob thread with a tutorial thread. Can one of the admins split the thread (if that's possible)? If not i can create a new thread for remote control interfacing under the OLS section and then on BP section when i get to that.
no, not doing ccna.
edit: nevermind about splitting... thought i was getting off-topic from original post intent, but it seems fine now that i've reread it.
