Bus Pirate Development / Compiling from source
I wonder if somebody could provide a little assistance.
I am trying to compile the BPv4 firmware from source.
I cloned the SVN and opened up the project in MPLAB 8, I then modified the base.h and commented out the v3 (tried with and without comment) and then tried to make.
The build reports to go successfully and I get a hex in the output dir which is 339kb or if I export using the default end I get a file of 962kb but flashing either of these via pirate-loader does not work. The pirate-loader reports success but the bus pirate does not boot.
This is probably something silly that I am overlooking but from my reading around the forums and trying to find a solution myself I am getting nowhere.
Any suggestions
Thanks in advance

Bus Pirate Support / BP v4c IC3 I2C EEPROM problem
I now have my Bus Pirate V4c built and programmed, not tested it out properly yet other than running the Self Test which is below.
When trying to use the onboard I2C EEPROM to try and have a play around with it I get
Code: [Select]
Searching I2C address space. Found devices at:
Warning: *Short or no pull-up
And I notice in the Self Test, although there are no reported errors it does not say OK at the side of EEPROM. I have inspected my soldering and all seems well with no shorts. The 2x Resistors (R9-R8) test fine at 2k and the Capacitor C6 appears ok. The EEPROM is an 24AA64 from Microchip http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/d ... 21189r.pdf.
Does anyone have any suggestions or is it just likely to be a DOA part?

Although I do plan to do future work with PIC, it isn't enough to justify a pickit as hopefully I will manage with the BusPirate.
Thanks again

Bus Pirate Support / Chicken & Egg - BP v4c Programming?
Just completed a BusPirate v4c build and am now met with the issue of programming it. I own no pic programmer :-( I could build something, but I did take the easier option and chose to replicate the ApProg430 (the developer escapes me) and have ordered the MSP430 Launchpad for this purpose. As expected knowing the UK postal service it didn't arrive today as it was supposed to and I'm impatient.
I would like to try out my new (and first) BP, but worst case scenario I can wait for the Launchpad to arrive.
I read in the forum mentions of using an FT232R to bitbang the programming using PiratePICProg but couldn't find any details or even if this is possible. (I have FT232R available)
I have tried to use the GoodFET with their PIC application, (doesn't fully support 24F, designed for 24H) and this will read the Chip ID and act like it is flashing the bootloader to the BP but this goes on forever and doesn't actually write anything. It does allow me to write / read memory addresses though.
At my disposal I have the GoodFET, a TI MSP430 FET, a Stellaris Launchpad, an Arduino, FT232RL (will be salvaged from the GoodFET, well probably I will cut traces to the MSP430 and keep it on the board by soldering to relevant pins if needed)
I have quite good soldering skills, but a low selection of components at my disposal. I also only have basic experience at programming for the Arduino / Stellaris so porting existing solutions is out of the question.
Any suggestions or do I just wait for delivery?
Thanks in advance
