#twatch network LCD backpack / Re: got mine today.
Luckily the box my frames came is still sitting on my desk, unfortunately there's definately no bag, screws, nuts, or standoffs in my package:( There was only the 2 frames, a seeed card and a small bit of bubblewrap in the bottom of the box:(

Not to worry though, I'll go buy some tomorrow:)

I dont think the frames come with screws. I bought 2 frames and neither had screws. The holes drilled in my frames were M2.5 whereas the holes in my old frame (and the LCD itself) are M3...

#twatch network LCD backpack / Re: LCD Smartie - Tests, Suggestions, Tips, Requests
1. adjustable contrast is not supported so the twatch wont understand the commands being sent... hence the garbage on the screen. that said, providing there's some spare pins on the PIC then theres nothing stopping you adding a digital pot and a few lines of code... it shouldn't be all that hard and would be quite a cool addition

2. I haven't actually had time to try my twatch yet but I can't see why the custom characters wouldn't show up properly. do all custom characters fail or is it just odd ones?

Bus Pirate Support / Re: BP v3 Arrived
As you said, R2 and R3 are both 1K1. R31 and R32 are both 390ohm as it says they should be on the circuit diagram. However, I think they should be more in the order of 680ohm to make LEDs 2 & 3 the same brightness as LEDs 1 & 4.

I haven't actually got around to properly using the v3 yet, but being red it certainly makes it easier to find!!

Here's a few pics of mine, still haven't got around to sorting the LEDs... that's tomorrows job:) I don't have the board infront of me just at the moment, but from memory the resistor for VREG reads as 391.

Bus Pirate Support / BP v3 Arrived
Woohoo! My Bus Pirate v3 has just turned up (not sure where my twatch is though, being that it was shipped the same day... hmm).

Here's my info screen, seems to use the later B5 devices where as my BP2go had an A3 device:
Code: [Select]
Bus Pirate v3 (Seeed Studio)
http://dangerousprototypes.com
Firmware v2.4-Seeed
DEVID:0x0447 REVID:0x3043 (B5)
HiZ>

I've now updated to the latest version which seems to have gone okay, passes all the self test too, but I seem to have a dead "mode" LED and the "vreg" LED is way too bright... time to whip out the iron methinks :)

I don't think 7.8v as an input should be thought of as high, both the 7805 and 1117 can take much more as an input... the 1117 is likely to get a little warm as you go past 9V though.

If you want to try to lower the temperature of the 1117 then you could try connecting the input to the 7805, then it only has to drop 1.3V. The minimum Vin for the 1117 is 4.75V so it should work. Clearly this will make the 7805 run a little hotter but I wouldn't have thought it'd be too much more.

All of microchip's ethernet controllers run pretty warm, so Im not suprised the pic hits 50 deg c... I'll start worrying about it when I can fry an egg on it ;) lol

Still waiting for mine to turn up... hopefully not too much longer to wait! :D

#twatch network LCD backpack / Re: Great, now what?
Seeing higher readings on power adapters isn't all that unusual depending on how the output is regulated. Your measured voltages are around root2 times bigger than what your expecting... I wouldn't mind betting that if you put a load on that supply you'll see it come back down to where (you think) it should be. If you put a scope on it you'll probably see probably see a little ripple on the output too.

Either way, I dont think this is the problem of why your twatch isn't working since it has its own built in regulators anyway which should be able to handle more than 11V as an input. The more likely options are that either your polarity is wrong (Im assuming the adapter had a DC output), or your twatch was DOA, or maybe it's in a BL mode (although I'd expext to see active ethernet lights anyway if this was the case)?

Hack a Day projects / Re: Analog Outputs
Great work Ramon! I've been meaning to what you've done here for ages... just not had any time to sit down and do it! Cheers for sharing the code!

Can't wait to see what Ian's got instore for the new HTTP server either! :)

Hack a Day projects / Re: No Network Activity
I notice you say you can only order from Farnell or RS... are you in the UK?

Regarding the RJ45 jack problem... I got mine from Farnell, it was a magjack with built in leds but you can get a version without LEDs that has the same pinout as the one on the original layout. I'll have a look for the part number when I get home.

Hack a Day projects / Re: Programming the PIC24FJ64 on the BC Webserver
Hey, glad you managed to get your PIC programmed in the end!! PICKit2 just makes thing sooo much easier doesn't it?!

I've still been thinking about the other programmer but I can't think what else could be wrong. Maybe keep it as a project for a rainy day... just for fun:)

I cheated with my webserver and built it using through hole components with a full size SD card slot... mainly because at the time I didn't have access to anywhere to make the PCB. It doesn't look as neat as the proper thing and it is of course a little bigger, but it works just the same and it's easier to hack bits on as and when i need :D
