Hardware biz / Re: Tindie commission increase
Tindie operates on commission so it's all about generating volume. People like me are as much use to them as a chocolate teapot. But clearly I'm not alone if 1/3 of their product line has never had a single sale. Tail as long as Haley's comet :)

I didn't quite sell something today but I did arrange a barter deal with another Tindie seller, who presumably sells just as little. It was loads of fun and for me kind of what it's all about, which just goes to prove the point that I am no bloody use to them and neither are the rest of the 2 bit makers on show!

Evidently I am doing quite well with my 1 Tindie sale. The product in question is now right at the top of page 6 in the "all time favorites" hit parade, ahead of 27 pages of other items. Another product, which I just listed last night and have sold none of, is holding up well on page 20, in the middle third of best selling items.

Thank you all the employees at Tindie (Emile, Julia, Marc, Jay and Christopher, plus legal consultant Ivan) for helping me become one of the site's top vendors!

Project development, ideas, and suggestions / Re: Uranium glass wearable
I was thinking I would need a polarized header for safety reasons, so that it is impossible to plug the charger in backwards.

I do like the idea of magnetic snaps, especially for connecting wearables together electrically. I have seen these from Rapid but I don't know where to get them in the USA. I think it is probably possible to DIY them as well, although soldering is tricky because the usual neodymium magnets are heat sensitive.

Looking a bit harder, it seems that they used to be manufactured by a British firm called Magtrix and distributed by Maplin which is part of the RS group. More recently they were manufactured by Assemtech which is part of the Comus group. There is no datasheet and it is possible these are no longer in production. Either way they are no longer widely available outside the UK. Seeing as these seem to be hard to find I might buy up a big lot when I am in England in a few weeks.

Ah yes, the earring! That was another clever and artistic and idiosyncratic design. I hope you make more of those.

I'm looking at connectors to attach the battery charger. JST series is commonly used for this. SH is the smallest in the range, but the housing is not very aesthetic.

Molex Pico-EZmate has a low enough profile to go on the back, so this is what I am leaning towards at the moment.

Any other suggestions?

Quite a few changes in 2nd draft. Now there are through hole LEDs mounted on the opposite side and an LiR2032 with solder tabs to be charged in situ. The Uranium button will be mounted on the back of the cell. Also some energy saving measures: moving to 2.2V regulated supply and the vibration sensor pulled up to an output pin rather than VCC.

From this point I can't really do whole lot more hardware development until some parts arrive, so I am going to prototype the firmware next on a Launchpad v1.4.

There's something very neat about the symmetrical quadrants in the prototype. I love the projects on your blog.

Ah, it looks like the migration to Reddit, if I can call it that, was also announced on the Twitter feed.

Anyway now that I have the Reddit to gripe in I can stop bellyaching here.

Hardware biz / Re: Tindie commission increase
To be honest it might have happened a while back and I wasn't paying attention. Even so it seems senseless and unnecessary. Tindie largely relies on blog posts such as this one to spread the word, and now Google is full of rotted product links.

There are 3 pages of bare PCBs advertised on Tindie. I have had exactly 1 sale and the PCB is #5 on the "popular" list. Of the 4 items higher on the list, 2 are out of stock.

High volume? I can barely hear it.
