General discussion / Re: ST Link and VirtualBox.
I'm using STM32F4Discovery (with its embedded ST-LINK) under running inside a VirtualBox Win7-X64 (Virtual Box is running under Ubuntu 12.04 X86).
I have no problem so far. Everything is working correctly (even debug).

General discussion / Re: Picoscope oscilloscopes, any experience ?
@erdabyz
I'm aware of the Nyquist's sampling requirements and the (real time) sampling rates problematic. I'm using scopes in my everyday work since more than 1 year (we use mainly 1GHz 4Gs/sec scopes). I know that Picoscopes are limited with their 500MS/s (Almost all scopes advertised at any nn G sample / Second can do that only when a single channel is enabled, this bw is divided by 2, 4 ... when you have 2, 4 or more channels enabled).

When I said I need 200MHz for futre projects it's because I'm going to deal with about 28MHz signals, and this is why I need at least 200MHz (350 or 400 would be better of course but I dont have enough money for such tools).

@Arhi
GDS-2202A looks cool, but the lowest price I found was about 1360 euros (and not 1000 :( ).
Do you have any link to a distributor selling it at this price? (even if it's second hand, I dont matter).

General discussion / Re: Picoscope oscilloscopes, any experience ?
Thank you Arhi for your answer.
I'm more and more looking at the PicoScope 3206B (200MHz, 128M memory). Compared to 200MHz scopes, I checked the Rigol offer, and they sincerly have a very nice 200MHz scope (DS2202), but it's a bit expensive http://www.batronix.com/shop/oscillosco ... S2202.html
I heared excellent feedback about this Rigol thing and I'm very tempted to buy one. Compared to low end scope from Agilent (2xxx series), it has a lot of features provided as (very expensive) options by Agilent (or Tektronix).

So the problem for me is that for 1000 euros the choice is extremely difficult. 1K euros is beyond the high end amateurs/hobbists scopes, but it does not let you buy a trully useful tool for professional use.

From another  side, the Agilent have a nice feature: when you buy the low end 70MHz version (in the 2xxx or 100Mhz in 3xxx series), you can later buy upgrades to higher bandwidths (as bandwidth is limited using software in those scopes, the hardware is the same).  WIth the Rigol 2xxx series, you are locked to the bandwidth you buy, this is why buying a 200Mhz is mandatory for me since now (I really need only 100Mhz but I'll need the 200MHz for a big project comming if few months this year).

The PicoScope at 1080euros is the only 200MHz scope I found at this price providing a huge buffer, all serial bus decoders, and a nice set of triggers, and an arbitrary wave form generator. What bothers me with this scope is of course the fact that I'm really used to use physical knobs and buttons to quickly change the scope settings (mainly zooming and triggers) at work, and with a windows gui and a mouse I cannot see myself doing things quickly.

General discussion / Picoscope oscilloscopes, any experience ?
I'm looking at buying a new Picoscope 2208 (I need the 200MHz). What's your experience with Picoscope?
the 3206A/B is also a 200MHz but the price is not the same, and it seems that is has only more buffer (64Mb instead of 40K).

What experience did you had with those scopes?

General discussion / which oscilloscope to buy for 1000 euros?
Did anyone tested the Rigol DS2102 oscilloscope?
I'm tempted to buy a new scope, with at least 100MHz freq. I have a budget arround 1000 euros.
I checked Rigol offering, and I have found two references:

Rigol DS1202CA  (755. euros)
High quality 2 channel DSO with 200 MHz bandwidth and 2 GSa/s

Rigol DS2102  (966. euros )
High quality 2 channel DSO with 100 MHz bandwidth, 2 GSa/s and 14 Mpts memory depth.

on the DS2102, the main interresting points (**for me**) are:
- the big display (since the scope has good mem depth, you can see a lot without zooming/unzooming)
- the trigger that can be set even on new advanced video modes (HDMI, ...) and on high level I2C/SPI/RS232 data packets.
- It can decode signals (software option to buy alone).
- it has two independent time bases

the DS1202CA instead have nice 200MHz bandwidth and nice buffer.

Has anyone tested both?
do you have other suggestions (from other brands)?

Project logs / Re: HAKKO (907ESD) and SOLOMON (SL-10/30) soldering iron dri
I have bought a soldering iron hadle marked as to be compatible with Atten 936B (supposed to be the clone of Hakko 936). The problem is that I found that it has 7 holes instead of 5 holes. Does anyone know if it's still usable with Arhi's driver?
or is there any adaptation to do to get it to work with it?  (I know from spec that it's a 24volt)

General discussion / Re: Microchip PIC simulator for iPad
Apple was against emulator in order to avoid users having an emulator and play games and other software inside the emulator, thus avoiding buying App store applications. Here the case is different, you'll only be able to run PIC application on the pad.

Zeta,
I would have never advertised something I'm not sure of. I know this guy personally. He worked in an industrial environment for a while, and he gave a lot of courses in PIC programming to some friends here at Paris. Actually he is working at a company making robots (for industrial use), at the industrial zone close to Argenteuil (the city where I live, close to Paris).

General discussion / Re: Microchip PIC simulator for iPad
Here is part of an email I received from him few minutes ago (translated by me from original mail in French):

"the simulation engine is almost ready, but without GUI. I ported it from my old Java simulation engine I does for PIC16F for the purpose of teaching PIC programming to engineers. The major task is to define the way I want to make this simulation engine accessible to end users, and to keep the GUI user friendly in the spirit of iOS and iPad applications in general".

concerning the app, he is going to update the perks to state he'll be giving the app for every contributor. and btw, I asked him to register on this forum, so everybody will be able to discuss with him directly :)
