Okay, that sounds fair enough. I've had some arm9 and 68k processors and such. A whole bunch of parts really and getting the code to actually run on one of those things would be nice. Thanks a lot, Blodgar.
I was wondering if anyone know if there's any law or such against getting parts from old broken stuff. It seems like the cheapest way to get things and it's recycling too.
Bubble wrap envelopes are just a tad bit more than the normal manilla types and the should provide adequate protection from future issues involving tearing. You could also go the super thrifty/cheap route and just bag the pcb and/or pad them with other soft material such as paper towels. They aren't prone to static so this should provide decent effect at a low amount of extra cost.
If anyone else can lend a hand in compiling a decent list of sources for such parts I'd appreciate that greatly and I'm sure many other people would as well.
As far as bots go you should find that in admin > members > ban list. It's there in the previous version of SMF as well iirc. In any case go and put bot ip's in there. You can find some lists on google easy enough. Though it might be a bit of work. I'll offer my help if you want it.
Yeah, one of things you may notice about 2.0 is that the menu placement is different but it's a default setting. You can go back to the old way when you want to. It should be in look and layout options in your profile. That'll only affect your own settings though.
I'm working on a little project which will need one of these. It'll need to output composite video. I know there are cheap ones that can output hdtv and such but my needs are simple enough and my tv only has composite. Being able to use 3d graphics with possibility for open gl would be a plus too. It's for a multimedia type of thing. The system I was going to work on was also going to use an arm processor and as few other things as possible.
Yeah, you can find lists of known bot ip addresses and ban them before they show up. While banning them via SMF should be good enough. Banning them via htaccess feels a bit better. You should be able to find lots of them with a quick google search. I've used smf 2 since it was in beta. It's stable enough to run a forum and it comes with more features than this version. you can always install it somewhere else as a test forum to try things out. If you feel like upgrading after that there are tools on the smf website to do so.
It's nice to see that it works so well. The one thing about it though is that it was slow. I don't know whether if that was due to server load or connection speed but maybe a textonly site would be a bit more apt for it.
That's in the permissions. It'd be for regular member's. I'm not sure but it's likely in this version of smf. I use smf 2.0 for most of my stuff since it has more options.
