Bus Pirate Support / Re: BPv4.0 and 4.0c - need help
I may be asking for trouble, but I'm going to give it a shot.  Once built, it'll at least be a nice looking paperweight...  then it'll give me a good reason to learn more about the programming side to make it work (BIG maybe).  In any case, it's soldering practice, and best case, it's a one(?) of a kind that'll get well used.  To save some pain though, I'll be working on the v4.0c first.

AndThen, Thanks for the links!  These will be a great help in getting this going.  I look forward to the challenges of this project and hope to post my successes when these boards are completed.
v4c is the Bus Pirate v4 now in production. The v4.0 is a test board that I built but never documented or made firmware for. All the Eagle Files should be in SVN:

Ian,
Thanks for the quick reply and link to the full BPv4 files.  I'm not sure why I wasn't finding them.  With this, it looks like I'll be good to go on the v4.0c.  Time to order some parts.  On the v4.0 test board, if I populated it, would the existing firmware work or is this board a paperweight?  If it would work, any suggestions you can make in determining what goes where?

Bus Pirate Support / BPv4.0 and 4.0c - need help
I have two BPv4 boards I'd like to populate and use, but I'm having trouble indentifying them to populate correctly.  I've downloaded the partslist, as well as a number of different versions of the .brd and .sch files, but none seem to match the boards I have.  A major difference in the two boards is the IC numbering, for example, though other components are also off.  Also, the board marked v4.0 doesn't match any .brd files I've found by this name.  I've included images of both.  I'm hoping someone can point me to the partslist (and if possible, .brd and .sch) for each of these boards.  Thanks!

General discussion / Re: Big Box Of Parts U.S.A. Only
I've completed my swapping of parts.  This ran me a bit longer than planned due to the holiday.  I'll be shipping the box out Monday to it's next destination (Sal_The_Tiller).

Out:

    Stellaris Launchpad
    AVR UC3 Xplained
    16-key pad
    4 misc protoboards
    Russian VFD tube
    3 Industrial LED displays
    Through-hole diodes and LEDs
Small bag of misc SMD components
    Dual pot
    2 Finger lights
    2 Tubes of misc ICs (PIC16F59, 12F683, 555 timers)
    PLCC Socket

In:

    2 MAX7456
    ENC28J60
    2 MAG3110FCR1
    4 S876417
    2 LIS3LV02DL
    3 AS3900-BQFP
    AS5040
    3 PIC2FJ64GA
    16 680uf 16v electrolytic cap
    2 Tubes heatsink compound
    WLAN card
    2 microphones
    Mic/LED input board
    Dial pot
    3v Battery w/ connector
    40-pin solid state drive
    128Mb memory module
    Audio/USB connector board
    Jumbo connector jacks with plugs
    2 DVI-VGA adapters
    3 LED output boards
LS2208 barcode scanner board with all functioning parts
Male-female serial cable (still useful with older gear I think)
large number of parts bags (not ESD-safe, for discretes, etc)

There were quite a few damaged boards and PLCC sockets (mostly due to badly bent pins) in the box as well as several bags of components (removed by blowtorch?) as previously mentioned, but I did not need to remove them for space.  I'd suggest they be first to go if space becomes an issue at future stops, unless someone has a need for them of course.  Also, there were several empty ESD bags, and several loose boards too big to fit in those bags.  Might I suggest anyone having extra empty ESD bags, throw them in the box in case someone wants to add a populatd board but doesn't have a bag for it.  Also, some ESD bubble-wrap would be helpful space permitting.

I just got the box.  With the holiday it will take me a few days before I can look things over, make the swaps, and resend.  I hope to have it out before next Friday.
The hardest part to get is the Ethernet jack with the integrated magnetics. However, Digikey carries the one I used (J00-0065NL). They are not exactly cheap but work well.
For anyone looking for this part, Numato carries them for $1.95 us currently.  They are located in India so there's a bit of cost for shipping but not terrible.  Depending on what else you may order, this could save you, especially if you;re needing several of these jacks.  They're very prompt to ship orders and they have been very helpful by email as well.  Here's a link to the ethernet jacks from their store.
I gave ducksauz my address on Sunday, so hopefully it'll be here in the next few days and I'll try to get it shipped out by next Monday.
Anyone know the status of this?  Still on schedule?
*Random not the two individuals before you and not necessarily the one after you. Also try to send it to someone who hasn't had a turn yet. Well you know what I mean so just send it.
So...  not sure I understand here...  we're not following list order, but instead choosing someone from anywhere on the list to send to...?  Any tracking to make sure PersonA doesn't get it 5 times while PersonB hasn't seen it once, for example?  Just as a thought, how about following the list as in order of signup.  Once someone gets the box they fall off the list.  They then can't request to be added back for x days.  They can then request to be added to the end.  This will help randomize somewhat by allowing others to enter the list between when they had it and when requesting to be re-added.

I'll be the first to admit, my suggestion sounds a little unpolished, but "random" selection from the list seems prone to issues down the road.
I know that I said that your vote doesn't count, but your two cent did. So then Please feel free to PM the rest of the individuals on the list and let them know to please give their opinions.
This is greatly appreciated you reconsidering this.  I've PM'd the remaining people on the list that you noted.  All were still 'active' in the member list.

Might I suggest starting two seperate threads in the event the box split wins the vote.  One could be the 'Big Box of Parts USA' (the current thread) and the other, the 'Big Box of Components USA', each with it's own signup list.  If the split occurs, touch would continue the parts box down the current list, but would send the component box to #1 on the component list.  If the box split doesn't occur, the component thread would be abandoned.

It should also be clear in both threads what is appropriate for each of these boxes so they doen't become two of the same thing, overstuffed with a little of everything.

And above all, Thanks for getting this box started!  It's an awesome opportunity for a lot of people that may not have easy access to some of the things that find their way into the box.  My closest hands-on source is radio shack or frys...  pfff.  Both lacking most everything I'm ever looking for, and no near place to share my spares.
Ok I think that we should split the box in two and make a box of components or anything that can be soldered to a PCB and blank PCB's. ...  Only those opinions of the ones that received the box already and myself will be taken into consideration The rest will have to live with it.
I understand where you are coming from on this decision but feel the last line seems unfair to those of us still waiting for the box.    If it's going to be the 'live with it' approach, then I guess that's what I'll get, but I think it makes more sense to at least take the current box through those that were already in the waiting list up to the point of this discussion, or at least get input from those that are remaining on the list currently (since it will be our problem to deal with until the split).  Giving the vote only to those that have already had their chance at the box, then returning a portion of the box back to those individuals doesn't make the most sense to me.

I know you said my vote doesn't count, but I feel the current box should  run through those remaining on the list, then split into two boxes with independent sign-up lists.  Just my two cents.

General discussion / Re: Big Box Of Parts U.S.A. Only
One option for the overflowing box problem is to split the box. That only leaves the question of how to do it. East/West? North/South? Just split it and send the forked box to the first person on the list? I'm not saying this is the solution, just tossing out an idea.
I can't say I'm a fan of this, though I can't speak for all.  I think a second box isn't a bad idea, but shouldn't be split from this one.  Is a larger box an option?  The parts I'll be adding are smaller so maybe I can find a use for some of the bigger pieces to help with space once it comes to me.  Any other ideas to this issue?

General discussion / Re: Big Box Of Parts U.S.A. Only
My spot is getting closer.  This is my first time trying this.  It'll be interesting to see what's in the box.  When I first jumped in I was afraid the box would be pillaged and full of junk by the time it got to me but I'm impressed by all the great stuff finding it's way into this box, and at a fast pace too!
