General discussion / Re: Programming IDE's
In windows, I use AvrStudio 4.19 to generate the makefiles and manage the project, but as main editor I use Gvim, in linux, its makefiles and Gvim, makes everything an IDE can do, and more, with less clicking.

Project logs / Re: HAKKO (907ESD) and SOLOMON (SL-10/30) soldering iron dri
I have one doubt, I have a termocouple that I bought from ladyAda and I have a soldering iron from JBC, and I want to joint then, plus a TRIAC and an Atmega8 to add temperature control to the iron, but I have one doubt, the iron an an earth wire, and I think that if I put the termocouple in contact with the iron it will not read anything due to the earth wire, I'm I correct or can I safelly put the sensor in contact with the iron and call it a day?
I not maybe I could remove the earth wire, but that is probably dangerous because the iron works at 230V AC.

General discussion / Re: RIGOL vs ATTEN oscilloscopes
That reseller is probably Batronix, that is giving 39% discount in the Rigol Scopes and free shipping, I have also ordered one Rigol from them, and I also submited the link to the E-Store in the contact form so probably Ian will post about it in the blog, so more epople can know about this discount prices in the Rigol.

Project logs / Re: AVR VU meter and spectrum analyser
If you never used the AvrStudio, then its a bit difficult to teach you how to add the libs to the project.
I can compile it for you, but remenber that after compiled you cant change between the vu meter and fft mode, because I still haven't implemented the user interface code..
If you can wait I will work a bit in the project when I have some free time and I will release everything into this forum.

Project logs / Re: AVR VU meter and spectrum analyser
My older laptop died, so I dont have the full project files, the lcd and fft libs are from Pete Fleury and Elm-chan respectivelly, so its just a matter of adding them to the project in AvrStudio, but the Eagle files are lost for ever...
I'm still working on this(shame on me for taking so long), but in the last time that I had some time to hack a bit I discovered that my audio cable was making bad contact in the laptop jacket, so it was one of the reasons the have strange results even when graphing the colected sound waves..
I'm still working on it, but I will change to and GLCD, so I can show a bit more of data on it.

Arduino / Re: How to test digital read speed?
The Arduino read and write functions can take somewhere from 40 to 80 cycles to be done, if you are toggling a pin you can write to the PINx register when in output and that will do an atomic toogle in a single cycle of the desired bit in the desired port, when you want the fastest thing thats as fast as the Avr can go.

General discussion / Re: SMD Practice?
I'm still waiting for a visa card so I can use paypall..
But ifs not asking to much what is the price of the 0805 resistor and caps kit?

General discussion / Re: SMD Practice?
Those are some pretty big resistor and caps collections!
Willing to share the links to get one kit of each in 0805?

Breakout boards / Re: What breakout do you need/want?
I would like to have a breakout for the MPU-6000, it is an integrated 3 axis digital gyro and accelerometer, which would be usefull for UAV projects.
The great problem is getting working software to make that chips worth their value.
I have the source code for the XMega eval board of the MPU3000 and I cant understand, it was sourced by an insider at Invensense and I was hopping that I could port it to Arduino/atmega328p as those are a common micro-controller in the simpler tri and quad copters, the problem is that the code is super complex, and the compiled output as an whopping 64Kbytes!!!
The initialization and configuration of the MPU3000 alone and the special data that is sent to it so it can talk to external accelerometers is in a source file with more than 10K of code with very little comments.

If some one could get open-source drivers it would be a great chip as they are pretty cheap but its almost impossible do to anything with them.

Project logs / Re: AVR VU meter and spectrum analyser
Its been a wile since I last touched in this little project, one of the major reasons was that my laptop decided to die, now I have everything up and running again and I have made some major changes to the project.
The first one was to use an external Microchip 12 bits adc, in the breadboard I'm using an MCP3208 with 8 channels but in the final board I will use its smaller brother with only 2 channels because I dont need more than two.

Then I changed the input section to a simple voltage divider and a cap to filter the incoming DC.
The code was also changed a bit to introduce the SPI interaction code to talk with the ADC and the mapping is also different due to the increased resolution of the ADC, the VU meter is also now working in "interrupt" mode, using a flag the code runs now synchronized with the lcd update timer, the refresh rate is also a bit faster now and I'm surprised to see how fast the lcd can work!

Still need to work out the fft part and redo all the pcb work.

General discussion / Re: PIC32MX795F512H in 64 pin TQFP for Eagle
Thanks for the responses.
I have already read the Sparkfun Eagle tutorial and I'm actually using their keyboard shortcut layout and gerber generator.
Right now I cant investigate more about the subject because my laptop decided to die and I'm using my brother laptop and I dont want to spend my time installing all my software here and I dont even have all my backups with me, so right now I'm in a sort of forced vacations :(
When I get a new laptop or fix the old one I cant do anything, but after that I will give you some news about this.

General discussion / Re: PIC32MX795F512H in 64 pin TQFP for Eagle
If i google for PIC32MX795F512 BSDL I can find a big text file, if I save it into an .ulp file will it work?
Another question, is there a really good tutorial about making Eagle parts?
I can't get the footprints dimensions right, because it looks like the horizontal distance is measured from the center of the + in the Eagle editor to the center of the pad, but the vertical is measured from the center of the + to an edge of the pad, or the other way around and I can never get it right, so if someone knows a good tutorial leave the link here.
Thanks for all the support that this forum as offered.
