Breakout boards / LFCSP on xQFP breakout board
I'm just trying to evaluate the AD7142 and thoght it would fit on the xQFP breakout board (it's a 0.5mm 32 pin LFCSP). It does fit, but the pcb pads stop just short of the package, so every pin has to be bridged with solder.

Is there a more suitable breakout ? This would be fine for a 36 pin package but the pads need to be about 0.2mm longer for this to work on the 28 pin.

USB Infrared Toy / Re: emitter follower?
I'm not sure that would be all that useful  : the USB 5V should be pretty constant, and if it does fall, you're going to have problems. If it doesn't, then the led power will be fairly constant anyway.

It may not be very repeatable between examples, though - some LEDs and some transistors will introduce extra loss. Perhaps a constant current drive will help make things consistent, and help LEDs with a high forward voltage attain full brightness without risking low voltage examples.

A more useful modification might be a method to get more brightness out of the LED for larger range. This will usually require some sort of energy storage, as for example in this Microchip  app note TB062

Bus Pirate Development / Re: Hardware manufacturing update
There's a 32QFN package, about half the size of the SSOP.

But actually, I was thinking there was another FTDI serial chip without so many GPIO pins. In fact, the others all seem to have more.

Bus Pirate Development / Re: Hardware manufacturing update
In order to fit the BP (I have a v3a) more neatly in a case, I've removed the ICSP header and replaced the I/O header with a rightangle connector. I can always put the ICSP back if I need it, but I see from the comments above that you're removing it anyway.

I notice that you've use the large ftdi232r package. This has a number of unused pins (cbus and part of dbus) that can be used in bitbang mode. If some of these were connected to the ICSP pins, would it be possible to program the BP bootstrap in without needing external ICSP at all ?
