Breakout boards / Re: What breakout do you need/want?
ideally in 1985 the should have known that usb is the future, but they instead went with a DB25 rs232. it is just a problem for me cause i still use AX.25/packet radio. after 25 years it can still handle current standards. and that is why i still use it!

as far as the library ill hold off till later. I'm going to try to get the micro side of the PHY need to cross reference a couple parts and read some data sheets. the magnetics may have to be diffrent but the layout is common for most of the jacks from the same series.

if you update the library ill be sure to get the new one, BTW i have not confirmed the atmel or the micrel layout for accuracy if anyone can confirm them that would be great!

thanks Ian i am working on the schematic right now and am going to look for the seeed library id rather use that one instead of the SFE library. most of the changes are in the notes on the sch. right now. mostly for development purposes.

I will post a brief list of changes and and the new sch by 3pm est

Project development, ideas, and suggestions / Re: Web Platform v2?
Ive tried to keep it minimal and checked everything twice.
I played out with the layout too but with the addition of parallel flash, it made it very crowded in the limited eagle freeware space.

changing to 0402 resistors and caps would save some space but make the inital batch hard to solder for anyone with a stereo microscope, and may increase production cost depending on the manufacture house.

some of the address lines on the ram can be swapped without problem but best bet is to keep other signals away and and fill ground around them, also i think the speed can be limited(ill check data sheet).

I was going to swap it to a uSD card but haven't looked at prices for them or and data sheets yet. Any suggestions for part numbers?

The serial data flash i previously listed is only 8Mbit i misread the data sheet, i have since looked up other serial flash aboyt 3.50 for a 32 Mbit in same package. In order to boot a ucLinux  i think we would need at least 4Mbyte. but capacity can be changed at any time.

The Ethernet phy needs similar setup to the enc28j60 on the jack side, but needs 20 or so lines to the arm.

For the most part port B and C will be unused but at a minimum we should bring out the DBTX and DBRX serial lines even though they mimic the usb function in the boot load process.

ill try to split my time between the wiki and devel. but first ill try to make everything i found useful available first.

as for the parts layout on the board i have not confirmed anything not from the DP library. we should confirm the arm and phy are accurate.

This is what i have come up with so far.
>at91sam9260 180Mhz arm926. does not require jtag to program just free usbport or serial adaptor to SAMba boot rom.
>8 Mbyte dataflash needed for pc-less boot.
>mini sd card slot for expantion.
>micrel 10/100 ethernet PHY.
>single 16 or 8 Mbyte sdram.
I would like to include a header for unused io to access the various serial ports and gpio.
I was not thinking about putting a usb-a connector for the host port, just a 1x4 0.1" header.
I have been thinking about a parallel flash but that would drive the price up and complicate the routing of the board, the serial data flash is about a fith the price of a parallel flash. so i have not included it, but i am open to suggetion on this topic.
Need to determine wether or not it can be powered from usb device port.
i believe this can be done with a 2 layer board, about the same size or a little bigger than the current web platform V1.1.
maby  coming up with a diffrent name to diferentate the power of this project would be a good idea.
Creating our own linux fork would benifit the hobbist using this board.
here are some links to datasheets and the atmel page where all the info for the at91sam9260 is.

excellent point Sjaak. i guess ill have to keep and old pc around just to use my old kantronics tnc. i guess the only thing keeping it alive are proprietary systems that hide the phy specs. ive seen rs485 used in non standard ways lots of times.
