@tayken I have somehow ordered the launchpad from ti estore by a friends CC. as per fedex, I hope to receive that at this weekend.

Flash_Destroyer EEPROM tester / Re: Free PCB build + EEPROM written to death :)
Here in my area it's 10-15 in winter and 40-45 in summer. Quite tough!

Nice to see it survived more than 11 million cycles. Microchip may need now to revise datasheet and should say that more than 10 million cycles.

But there's a big point which will resolve even if DIP ones are soldered from bottom. The point is that these LCD's connectors aren't built to hold the LCD. The LCD requires a holder or even atleast requires a bothsided foam tape between LCD and board. The foam tape will take care of the DIP pins and solders from touching and damaging the LCD.

I guess you need a 10grams PCB to replace 100grams of wires if doing a final version.
Is there any documentation of this project and design in your blog, or elsewhere?

USB serial LCD backpack / Re: Nokia LCD USB backpack free PCB built
Anyways, you can load mirrored imaged to the LCD and see it correctly. (funny way)
You'll receive a free PCB code from Lynn soon if you haven't received yet. :)

Project development, ideas, and suggestions / It's Update time: UPDATE v1α
Changes from v1 to v1α:
1. More neatly arranged components and tracks.
2. Header pin is placed in middle and mounting holes are done in 4 sides.
3. LCD is placed on the bottom layer and rest of all parts are in top layer for a clean look.
4. Equivalent SMD pads are given on every connections of DIP passives, so user can use either SMD resistor, diodes, or can choose DIP ones as per availability in his desk.
Still to do:
Actual applicable resistor values for best performance to be calculated after final assembly of one test board. But that will just update the schematics' parts values, board will be indifferent.
Should I do?
A tap out point for backlight LED voltage pins so user can give external supply of 6.5-7V by debated(?) MAX232 or others.

Hi patb, Welcome to the forum.
Nice idea, MAX232 has output voltage as 7V from data lines, and 8.5V from booster section. But the problem with MAX 232 is that it works from 4.5 to 5.5 volts only, and in the case of this board, there is selectable 3V3 and 5V0 logic, so our booster part should work between 3V and 5V range.
If we look for alternative RS232 transreceivers at low voltages, then ADM3312E comes in 2.7V operation, but that will burn in 5V. If you can find a RS232 transreceiver which works between Vcc 3.0V and 5.5V then it would be appreciated.
EDIT: LT1331 is a RS232 transreceiver which can work both in 3.3V and 5V but output voltage is respectively 5.5V and 8.6V.

General discussion / Re: Just a guide to reflow soldering, very easy method.
The best way to do homemade reflow is using either hot air stations for small to medium boards or modified ovens.
Just because even SparkFun used hot plates for reflow in the past it doesn't mean it's a good method at all, and should be avoided whenever possible.[/quote]
If you don't have boots, you have to wear slippers to your office. Surely my idea is not a perfect rework solution, but what else can I expect without paying a cent for dedicated reflow hardware? I don't want to quarrel here with you, but my method works fine.
And as you were talking about solder paste which contain solder dust, I tell you that I'm not using any such thing. I told clearly that I presolder the pads with ordinary iron and 73%Sn solder wire (I just apply little solder, not create a solder bump) and process the whole reflow job by paste type flux and liquid flux only. No extra solder is applied while reflowing.
The best part of my technique is the last drops of liquid flux makes the board look like professionally soldered, and corrects any solder bridges.
