Project development, ideas, and suggestions / Re: free stm32 discovery for entering design in contest
Hi blarson,

The thread is over here, in the general discussion section.
There's actually another STM32 Design challenge, http://www.ebv.com/en/products/stm32-design-contest.html, you can also get a free one from there, if there's still stock.
I think it's more european based but I couldn't find anything about location restrictions in the terms & conditions, so I'm guessing it's open for anyone.

AVRDude / Re: avrdude v5.10 doesn't work with Bus Pirate firmware v5.9
[quote author="tgvaughan"]
Hi Rubu,  I did see that topic but wasn't convinced that it was the same problem.  It seemed from your post that the BP was sending gibberish back to avrdude after the prompt.  I didn't observe anything like this, just avrdude failing to detect the prompt..

Tim

edit: woops - missed the line where you said "works here too".  Great!  So this is the same problem.  Weird - what was that strange stuff in your serial dump then I wonder?

I have no idea, but there pins were quite small and I was just probing with a solid wire, so there's a fair chance I might have slipped for just a split second and the RX disconnected, floated or something like that.

Hi Tim,

As you may have already read in this topic, we were running into the same problem.
I just gave it a quick try on windows 7 64bit, and it works here too.
Thanks! save's me the hussle of flashing the stk500 firmware everytime I need to flash an AVR.
I agree with you on the BP firmware, but as AVRDude support had been broken through v5.something-v5.8 because of a reset confirmation, I'm guessing this little change just sneaked in there along the way.

AVRDude / Re: BP Not Responding
Yeah that's what  thought, I might be able to give it a run on another system later today, though.

AVRDude / Re: BP Not Responding
Wish I could, Portmon doesn't seem to be compatible with 64 bit systems, tried finding an alternative but no luck so far.
Maybe you know another serial monitor that might be compatible?

I also tried poking my other FTDI chip at the TX and RX of the FTDI on the BP, but that didnt seem to give anything valueable.

did it once for TX once for RX, but this was still on v4.2, the last one that worked I believe.

Should I do the same for v5.9? maybe a different baudrate?

AVRDude / Re: BP Not Responding
Hmm, odd. I've got the same issue here. Windows 7 64bit.
I tested the AVRDude support immediately when I flashed v5.9, but as I didn't have any avr's handy, I only waited to see if it was detected, and when that happend I figured that, as I thought nothing had changed since v4.x, it worked again. So I falsely reported it to work again, my bad.

Anyway, got the exact same problem, one thing I noticed though is that the power supplies don't seem to come on. Testing with or without a chip connected also yields the same result. Powering a chip from a different supply doesn't change anything either.

Wow, cool story, I had no idea this kind of stuff was possible! The router we cleared the NVRAM of was a WRT320n. It was bricked by a faulty DD-WRT firmware flash if I remember correctly. But after that whole setup I can imagine being hesitant about clearing the nvram ;)

Bus Pirate Support / Re: AVRdude support broken, revert to v3?
[s:]Confirmed working again in v5.9
Big thanks for this, i flash attiny's now and then so it's not really worth the trouble of changing the firmware.[/s:]

initial detection of the buspirate worked, however,  actual flashing of chips still doesn't work.

Bus Pirate Support / Re: Bus Pirate came in handy again...
Ha! a Linksys router? A roommate of mine had a similar issue with his router, and I remember thinking how handy the BP would come in there. Eventually we solved it by shorting some GPIO pins to ground for a specific number of seconds, but that took quite a few tries to get right.

Bus Pirate Support / Re: BusPirate for a newbie
Haven't tried an ATMega8, but it should work aswell. just need to look up the partno in the manual (http://www.nongnu.org/avrdude/user-manual/avrdude_toc.html#SEC_Contents) and change that.

And as for ECG, I don't know a lot about it, but i think most systems use several analog filters and such to clean up the signal before an MCU can actually make sense of it.
I'm not entirely sure about that though. Cool idea none the less, I'd be more interested in EOG (eye tracking) myself, but that's more or less the same principle I believe.

Bus Pirate Support / Re: BusPirate for a newbie
As for programming AVR's with AVRDude, here's what I used to figure it out the first time : http://hintshop.ludvig.co.nz/show/buspirate-avr-programming/
Do note that the AVRDude support was broken in firmware v5.0-v5.8, in v5.9, it works again.
So if AVRDude has trouble detecting the BusPirate, check your firmware.

Being a newbie myself, i had 2 little questions aswell,
what's the difference between the BPv3-STK500v2-v0b.hex and the BPv3-STK500v2-v0c.hex STK500 firmwares?
and what is the BPv3-Firmware-v5.9-extras.hex firmware found in the latest release?
