The development of the firmware for BP has kind of stoped. If you are not a  developer I recommed you buy the BPv3. The BPv4 is stable, almost everthing work it can't be used as STK500. Since the BPv3 works it does not make sense for any one to work on a firmware for BPv4 unless they want to add additional features for their requirements.

The BPv4 does not come with the latest firmware but you can easily update it. I belive the latest firmware is Bus Pirate v4

Does windows detect the ftdi chip. A COM port should appear in Device manager. Make sure you select the right COM port and set the baud rate to 115200.

Make sure the cable you are using is not bad. Some usb cables are only ment for charging.

If yor computer detect the FTDI chip use the GUI firmware upgrade tool to upgrade the firmware. Make sure you select the correct COM port and short pins PGD and PGC.

If that does not work contact Seeed's Q.C and customer support team and ask them to send you a new one.
