'plugdev' should do, I guess ? I have no idea of udev rules but I can't spot any user/group settings there. The funny thing is that I can write to that port as a mere user, I can see the USB LED flash for any keystroke.

Yep, I was only resoldering the USB LED and its resistor. I can't really check the PCB as I have no magnifying glass. Somehow it's working this morning. Looks like a permission problem with Linux, I started 'screen /dev/bus_priate 115200' as root and it worked. As a normal user I don't get errors but also no response from the BP. Will check with Windows later.

My USB LED wasn't working so I touched SMT parts for the first time with my iron. Looks like I've bricked it. I can see the USB LED flash when I hit [Enter] now but I don't get any response from from the BP, neither Linux nor Win XP. awesome...
