Bus Pirate Support / Finding out RS232 commands from massage chair
Hey all I have a very quick question to ask about the Bus Pirate before i go ahead and order or not order it.

I am looking to get the RS232 commands from a massage chair. It has an ugly, bulky "box" of a controller that just doesn't look nice when looking afar at the chair itself. So me being a programmer, wanted to make myself my own GUI for the chair and be able to send the command to the chair.

Now there seems to be MANY types of these massage chairs that come from China. But under them all seems to be the same type of setup. I noticed this video http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjOfZ7uwmys of a factory that showed from start to end how a chair is made. The video spots that are most informative are [4:30-5:10], [6:35-7:28] & [8:00-8:20]. In all instances you can clearly see "COM xx" on the programs they use to test out the motherboard and remote control.

So, would the Bus Pirate be what I need in order to know what commands are being sent from the remote control to the motherboard?

USB Infrared Toy / IR Toy v1 not working in Windows 8
Hey all i am working with the Version 1 of the IR Toy and have been trying to get it to work in Windows 8.

Currently it just says "CDC Test" in the device manager.

And the info on that says:

When i update the drivers using these 2 files (from the USBIRToy.package.v22.zip):

It gives me this:

Could i be missing a step?

USB Infrared Toy / IR toy not recognized..
It was working then i disconnected it then after awhile i connected it back up and it said this:

Any way to check it and make sure its ok? The power LED stays on once i connect the usb cable. Also, i've tried to jumper the PGC and PGD pins together and then hooking up the USB cable and i get nothing in the device manager showing it sees it.

USB Infrared Toy / Re: IR reader software
I downloaded both the Hercules software and the SAL232 software and both would connect to the COM port but once i hit a button on the remote, it wouldn't display any output on the screen?

USB Infrared Toy / IR reader software
Is there anything that can read the IR codes via RS232 COM connection? I tried Hyper Terminal and also Tera Term and nether would output what the remote was doing.

I just want to be able to know what button was pressed so i can do whatever it is i need to do in response to it.

So as an example, if the user pushes a power button to turn on a A/V receiver the code may look like so:
Code: [Select]
00  A1  00  D3  00  1B  00  19  00  1B  00  19  00  1B  00  4D  00  1B  00  19
 00  1B  00  19  00  1B  00  19  00  1B  00  19  00  1B  00  19  00  1B  00  4D
 00  1B  00  4D  00  1B  00  19  00  1B  00  4D  00  1B  00  4D  00  1B  00  4D
 00  1B  00  4D  FF  FF
Then i was check that code against my codes i already have and if it matches the receivers power button code then it would preform that one.

If there's an easier way of doing this then please let me know :) Although i don't want to use pre-made software like Ghost or something like that. I rather just get the code straight from COM and do with it as i need.

USB Infrared Toy / Re: IRToyRecPlay v20 rc1 question (formally v0.7/0.85)
Hi,
i am thinking about to buy a IRToy. Before i have a question to the IRToyRecPlay.
I want to switch on my Panasonic TV with the IRToy. For switching on the TV, the power-button of the remote has to be pressed down a few seconds (maybe 2 or 3) continously.
Can the IRToyRecPlay tool record/transmit a continously few seconds long IR signal?

I also have noticed that it seems to be the dishnetwork remote. I have to point it at an angle of about 30% in order for it to register anything. But even then I can't go more than 5 buttons before I get the message to press any key again.

Anything else I can do?
I'm sorry about the bug. I have not been able to reproduce the 'V' problem on the Windows 7 notebook (32 bit) that I have access too.

That command has play and record specified, and some unused options. Can you please try:

irtoy -d COM4 -f irRemote -r
Its not that big of a deal as i just program it in my program to do that first.

Ok, still the same results when following your command above.

I am also getting this only when i flashed to the v120:

To make sure it wasn't anything on my computer side i flashed it again with v15-RC1 and it did not come up.

I think this may be the cause of the whole problem... Flashing it back to v120 shows the message again as it wasn't shown when flashing v15 RC1.

It seems that when i hold down the button for a millasecond longer it gives me that error of "press any key.."

But when i tap it really quick then it seems to give me data?

And for a side note, i still have to use Tera term to start it (doing a "V") before it can do anything after either being plugged in or having an error and having to disconnect it and plug it back in...

I'm running windows 7 x64
The command i am using is: irtoy -d COM4 -p -f irRemote -v -b 1024 -r
