How about a combination of #1 and #2? Keep the lines from the measuring points of #2 but with the bright tops and bottoms of the signal of #1? The best of both worlds.

My guess is that the ICD2 is on its way out. ICD3 has been promoted for quite a while now and they've stopped updated the device definitions for ICD2.

There are pickit3 clones on Ebay for around $30 with shipping. That might be an option. I haven't tried them so I'm not sure how close they are to an exact clone.

JMH08 appears to be working on the programmer support in MPLAB X based on his/her other posts in the Beta forum, so hopefully engineering sense prevails and marketing doesn't squash it. ;-)

PicKit2 support is coming for MPLAB X, confirmed by the Microchip dudes on their official forums. Don't fret.

I just upgraded mine to PIC bootloader OLSv1-bootloader-v1.hex, PIC firmware OLSv1-firmware-v06-20MHz.hex, and the FPGA version 2.04TestRelease. My unit appeared to have a bootloader in it but wouldn't let me program it so I flashed the bootloader on with my pickit2. I uninstalled the detected USB device and reinstalled using the inf files included in the OLSv1-firmware-v04 firmware bundle.

I'm not 100% sure how to upgrade the java application. I simply copied the newer analyzer.jar file from the 2.04TestRelease archive over the old OB_Logic_Sniffer_CVS_Sep262008 installation of the java app. Didn't get any new options but it seemed to work ok.

I'm using XP on an old Toshiba laptop. The logic analyzer is connected to the laptop through an Elecom USB hub. Everything seems to be running fine for me. The only problem I see is RLE still only works when all 32 bits are enabled. Not a big deal right now for me.

That being said, the unit was working for me as shipped from Seeedstudios so I may have been one of the lucky ones right from the start.

** Note : if there is anyone in Ottawa that needs a bootloader programmed, I can give them a hand
