Project logs / Re: Really universal soldering controller
For those who want USB3, this may be an option. I have ordered some to try. I have the Front board inside the case anyway.
Here is the link.
@sparkybg , maybe you could consider a header for the usb?  Should not be a major redesign...
And maybe for the OLED too?  :-[  Easier for those who have separate OLED/USB

Hi Sparky,
about the setting being reset after firmware upgrade
It is not intentional. After you set these things, turn off the power in order for them to be saved in the EEPROM - they are saved while "POWER LOST" message is on the screen.

I did some firmware upgrades on my station today.
I changed some settings, then powered off the station (to save them).
Then powered on the station and did a firmware update. This seems ok; settings are remembered.
Then I changed some settings again and NOT power off the station.
Now when I do a firmware upgrade, it reset (some?) values to default. T° settings, holder temp,...
Something seems to trigger resetting the saved values. Not sure yet what exactly.
Not a big issue really, I will do a firmware update next time right after powering on. I think that will work...

I connected it as sparky described:
Connection of rotary encoder:
- A to B1
- B to B3
- C to 3.3V
- Button to B1 and 3.3V

Basically, it's connected to the 3 buttons; the 'common' for the buttons is 3.3V

I have them saved. for example 280 - 320 - 360
When I do the firmware update, the Unisolder reboots, and the presets are set to 250-300-350 (which is the default values I guess.)
Not sure if I can prevent it by turning off the power, but I will check again tomorrow.

PS: And ENC-AB-4PPD works best for me also. The next best is ENC-A-2PPD.

Indeed, ENC-A-2PPD also works, but changes 2 steps for 1 click.  I din't try this, I tried ENC-AB-2PPD
Anyway, I suppose there is an option for everyone...
Personally, I like this way better than buttons, but it's a matter of taste I suppose.
