Tools of the trade / Re: Eagle export script for TM220A pick and place machine
Congrats!
Its a real time-saver for simple assembly work - just do not expect it to be better than 0.5mm precise... We use it for fast proto- and pilot series, and it paid itself well within a year. Most ICs & large components are manually placed, though.

Why did you go for TM-240 and not the new TM-245? (None of them have the missing improvement VISION, unfortunately.)

I have no doing and shall have no credit for the ULP or the Dangerous Prototypes web, but some response for you:

1. The change for TM-240 vs TM220 was just a couple of altered defines. I have not found any better ULPs - and the rotation seems to be the irritating issue; never seems to be able to fix it. A test run and manually editing is necessary every time.
2. ? Cannot answer that one.
3. The Bin 0 is simple enough; just place the component in one consistent corner and calculate the adjusted offset to the center of your component. For each time the pickup head has fetched a component from Bin 0, it will be ready to fetch the next 18mm to the right, then when last of the 10 is done, it starts in the leftmost again. So you may have to refill emptied positions if using more than 10.
So to use it, just access bin0 with correct offsets (18mm feed plus the offset for the component). If I remember correctly, the default pickup is approx in the middle of the compartment.

Good luck!
Claus

Thanks for ULP - it did save me a lot of time!
Adjusted it for my TM-240A, and used ca 5 hours getting to know the machine and ulp.
Then produced 200 cards without much problems. I am impressed! Almost 50% Return of Investment after 2 days....
(4-5 days saved).

I will suggest a few simple improvements to the machine (why - are they blind or did they not make a prototype first?)
* less stress to the peel-off tape (stopped the machine many times due to pickup failure of two components)
* rounded edges for plastic carriers to feed smoothly. Had to glue a piece of paper to make a soft edge.
No idea why, but placement was off for some of the larger components on many cards (ran a 6 card panel).
The obvious improvement would be vision.

Do not understand how to foresee the X,Y adjustment for picking up components, but it IS important to adjust some of them...

The ULP worked perfectly, however I found no good logic in the ACCEPT and SAVE buttons - but had no problems in using them.
Using Eagle 6.3 on Win7

Thanks again - saved me a lot of time!

Cheers from Norway
