Setup

  1. Connect a USB cable for power
  2. Program the complete firmware image (-DUMP.HEX) with a programmer

Test Procedure

This utility is used to test the LCD Backpack Board during manufacturing.

 Usage:
   C:\TestUtility\Manufacturing\LCDBackpackTest.exe  -p device [-s speed]
   Example Usage:   C:\LCDBackpackTest.exe.exe -p COM1
           Where: -p device is port e.g.  COM1
                  -s Speed is port Speed  default is 115200

  1. Run the utility: LCDBackpackTest -p COM27
  2. Connect an HD44780 LCD to the PCB
  3. Connect the LCD Backpack board to a USB port
  4. Make sure that port is mapped to a virtual com port and take note of the port number
  5. Hit any key to run the test, and hit ESC to stop
  6. Verify: backlight should be on (may need to adjust BACKLIGHT pot)
  7. Verify: self-test will display on the LCD (may need to adjust CONTRAST pot)

Use example

LCDBackpackTest -p COM27

Replace COM27 with the serial port assigned to your device.

Pass example

 Connect another LCD Backpack Board
 and press any key to start testing again
 Or hit ESC key to stop and end the test.

 You should see the text below displayed on the LCD:


  Backlight should be ON :)



 Connect another LCD Backpack Board
 and press any key to start testing again
 Or hit ESC key to stop and end the test.
  1. Verify: backlight should be on (may need to adjust BACKLIGHT pot)
  2. Verify: self-test will display on the LCD (may need to adjust CONTRAST pot)

Fail example

  • LCD did not display the text "Backlight should be On :)"
  • LCD did not turn on its backlight
