NoLoop galvanic isolator

Bertho shared his NoLoop galvanic isolator in the project log forum:

I had a problem some time ago with a nasty ground-loop and that cost me the USB port on my old laptop. It took me a while to realize what had happened and it was a generic problem we all run into more often than we think. Time to solve this particular problem once and for all and make generic isolation for Serial and SPI ports.

  1. Neat product. Also be aware of the ADUM4160 USB isolator chip – I’ve used this
in a couple of projects and it works really well. Provides complete isolation for
a USB signal (up to full speed).

  2. Thanks.

I did consider making it an USB isolator (and putting a USB/serial converter on it), but decided against it because having a separate isolator can be used other places as well. Also, now the serial and SPI versions are nearly identical.
