Official DEFCON 20 badges on sale

A limited number of DEFCON 20 “Human” badges are available from HackerStickers. The badges, described in an earlier post, are essentially a Parallax Propeller dev board and are being offered for $40 (plus shipping.) Each badge comes with 6 batteries, 2 PS/2 connectors, and 1 VGA Connector. These are the same badges given to attendees at last summers DEFCON 20 conference in Las Vegas.

Interesting… It’s nice to see the Propeller getting some legs. In the Glare of the likes of Arduino, the Propeller is hard to see in the market; sad. I’d like to see the schematic (can’t find it yet). I would have included an option for composite video out, which is trivial to add. That would allow badge holders to play around with the with the devices on a hotel TV with composite in. Also, (again, as I haven’t seen the schematic), it would be nice to know how (and if) they included USB programming support, via FTDI-chip perhaps? If-yes, that may explain the relatively high price. One has to be careful as to how the code runs on the likes of the Propeller in order to optimize battery life. Nothing negative wrt the Propeller in this respect – remember you can have multi-cores running in parallel (or not, up to you).
