Training module: Austria Microsystems AS1130 LED driver chip

Digi-Key has a training module on using the Austria Microsystems AS1130 LED Driver chip. The AS1130 can drive 132 LEDs with one chip via the “Crossplexing” technique similar to Charlieplexing. The AS1130 features include a built-in scrolling function. The 38 page PDF datasheet is available here.

    I guess there is a typo “The AS1130 can drive 132 LEDs with one chip via the “Crossplexing” technique similar to Crossplexing” , should have been “The AS1130 can drive 132 LEDs with one chip via the “Crossplexing” technique similar to Charlieplexing”

      Cross-Plexing Theorem

      The cross-plexing theorem is using the fact that a LED has a forward and backward direction. A LED will only glow if there is a current flowing in
      forward direction. A parallel LED in backward direction will block the current flow. This effect is used in a cross-plexed matrix of LED’s.
      Each CSx pin (CS0 to CS11) can be switched to VDD via the internal current source (“high”), to GND (“low”) or not connected (“highZ”).

    I got ten of these from Itead so would you like to get a pair to the free PCB drawer? I’ll post the schematics and demo video soon.
