Breadboard with an integrated Arduino

in Arduino by DP | 4 comments

BizzyBee breadboard is a simple concept. Take an Arduino, and stick it into the breadboard. You get access to the Arduino pins through a header sticking out of the center of the breadboard.

The concept is modular, with an FTDI and power board add on, and a separate Arduino shield compatible breakout board.

I do not want to be rude but, this is a really bad and useless idea because:
    1. Very obvious flaw : The breakout headers makes half the breadboard useless for DIP.
    2. The position of the useless part is in the middle, so wiring from a DIP to the header would be lengthy.
    3. This concept already exists (with that flaw)such as:
    a) http://www.adafruit.com/products/51
    b) http://www.instructables.com/id/No-Solder-Arduino-Beadboard-Shield/?ALLSTEPS

I wonder how those guys pledged for $2,729 already!

No worries, and any criticism good or bad is never rude, thats how people learn, unless someone is just trying to be rude, but I tend to lean towards learn first either way.

There is plenty of space on the board for dip chips at either end and there is also a dip specific accessory “flying bridge” that plugs into the OutRigger IO port ( the 28 pin standardized interface on the bottom ) that the OutRigger Shield Extender and other accessories plug into, which is designed for the specific use you have brought attention to. The strength of the BZB is its modular design, you can mix or match the just what you need elements, no matter what configuration or project level you want to work at, whether you are a brand new user learning, or a long time user expanding, it grows with you and because there is easy access to all pinouts down the middle and with the standardized OutRigger IO port underneath, expansion is only limited by what you or the rest of the community can design to fit your needs.

While I like the concept, although I find “blade” breakouts with machinated pin-headers more usefully for bread board….Anyway the voices in that video just took the prize away form Dave as the most annoying Video commentary in electronics :D

Speaking about the Voice only, loads of what Dave says makes since, it’s just the voice that needs to be digitally filtered, same with these two.:D

Yup I have a face made for radio and a voice made for teletype, what can a guy do. GRIN

Thats why my name is BOZ, much better behind the curtain.

Some of the weakness in the image and video work of the kickstarter comes from the fact that we hit the “New Kickstarter Hardware Rules” gauntlet the day we were awaiting approval.

We went to sleep one night with note if you change this one thing your good to go and can launch, to boom the next morning, there are new rules and you need to change everything. We were literally the first hardware in the queue, the first test case on the new rules and the second project who made it through.

So Yeah, I really hate the video production too and I did it, it was a last minute replacement,

In fact all of the image work and video was done ( or actually redone ) in desperate moments when they overruled our higher production video, image work and renders. We literally had to send it back to the stone age, as we worked back and forth with them over several days, to the extent that we had to add poor quality in order to pass. Our second set of photos was deemed to be renders also, even though they were actual photos, so we actually had to introduce flaws to get them to accept them and let us launch.

So I promise to not submit anyone to my voice again, I certainly wouldn’t want to be any challenge to Dave’s special reign. GRIN
