From the mail bag: Open source projects inspire!

Eric, the designer of the VideoOverlayShield now on sale at Seeed sent us this mail.

Just wanted to write and say thanks for all the work you do at Dangerous Prototypes you and your team have been a big inspiration to me.

Read about his project manufacturing at Seeed experience below.

Over the past few months I’ve been working to get setup with Seeed Studio and now my product the VideoOverlayShield is available for sale at Seeed Studio. With Seeed Studio’s help I was able to lower the price of the VideoOverlayShield to $39.95 with the hope that this price will allow more people to get involved with the project.

I hope to be able to build more open source hardware projects in the near future and have those built and sold by Seeed Studio also.

Thanks Eric. Via the contact form.

    Looks really nice.
I especially like it’s designed with gschem and pcb.

Awesome looking black board, but it must be very hard to debug PCB errors,

I’d like to say two things:
    1) I wish this project existed years ago… would’ve used it for really low quality VHS fansubbing I was interested in doing. It’s amazing what we can do today for so little $$.
    2) I agree with Eric. You guys are a real inspiration. Since I grabbed a Bus Pirate, I’ve been doing way more tinkering with electronics recently. I hadn’t done much since high school and college (which was quite awhile ago now), but you’ve helped push me back into it. Thanks!

Awesome board, looks really neat as a finished product. And as a gEDA user myself I can appreciate their use of it :)

I only found that the actually routing isn’t so as pretty as I would have seen. It’s functional of course but could have been better.
