Bus Pirate on EEVblog and 2×8 connector support on LCD adapter

in BP v3, Bus Pirate, LCD by DP | 3 comments

Dave over at EEVblog tested an HD44780 LCD, and he used the Bus Pirate and LCD adapter in his demo. In the video he works with an LCD that has a 2×8 header, but the LCD adapter only supports a 1×16 type. Here’s a prototype LCD adapter board updated with an optional 2×8 LCD header. Now it should be possible to test nearly all common HD44780 character displays.

Currently version 3 of the LCD adapter is on sale at Seeed, an upcoming batch will feature this unpopulated optional header as well.

See the Bus Pirate in the EEVblog after the break.

You should really send Dave one of these new LCD adapter boards… I’m sure he’d appreciate it!
I think I will wait for BusPirate v4 to become the new standard to get a couple of them :)

A hint for the SIL connector, make it a DIL. I found boards made by etteam.com extremly useful for e.g. because they have instead of DIL with only female or only male pinheaders a DIL thats 1:1 and they solder one male and one female sil, so if you are connecting to breadboard and use MM cables you use female sil and breadboard, but if you are connecting your board to another connector using FF cables then you use the male sil on the board … VERY useful, and cost not more, just a very little space on the pcb. – for example: http://www.etteam.com/prod2012/interface3/et-mini%20usb-ttl.jpg
