Philip scored a vintage Sanyo 4 function calculator in a local thrift store. He opened it up and was pleasantly surprised with 8 Nixie tubes.

You guys wont believe what i just scored from a local thrift store [selling second/third/fourth hand stuff from japan] :)

A good old 4 function calculator from sanyo – and when i opened it up there is a set of nixies!

    And that is why I dumpster dive for electronics, go to yard/garage sales, and the neat thing about finding stuff like this is it already has everything you need to make them work. Even if parts have had their smoke let out, you can still get replacements.

    Congrats. I already raided my work for every electronic device that would eventually have ended up in recycling but I haven’t found any tubes yet….

    I do have some tubes from an old B&W TV but I was unable to identify them so far… if anyone knows a good website for that please let me know.
