    Looks like a good way to start Playing with my Microchip F1 board, and also work out a way to start doing CPLD JTAG via USB instead of trying to find a computer with Serial

    I just got my first FreePCB, the BusPirate EDemoBoard v3.0 , which I lusted over and am excited to work on. I appreciate the picture Menno, I understand there were issues with the original design of the 3EEPROM / demo board’s B.O.M. costing more than the price of the buspirate itself but I look forward populating my PCB as much as I can, possibly finding replacements for any EOL / discontinued components & using this great educational tool to familiarize myself more with the bus pirate.

    I’ve learned so much from the few chips I’ve experimented with, all thanks to the bus pirate.I know this board (or the amount of it I am capable of populating) will be another step in the direction of a well rounded self education.

    A bit of the mask was chipped away so I also got to use my circuitworks overcoat pen for the first time. I’m curious to see how well it works once it fully dries.

    and great thanks to Ian for the inspiration, encouragement & tolerating my long freakin emails. I’ll move my chatter to the forums in the next week so we can open up dialog.

      Thanks for the comment, We are working on a demoboard v5 right now, that uses a single cheap PIC to emulate the various different ICs. By adding/removing jumpers you are able to select the protocol I2C/SPI/or UART, and select the device you want to control, EEPROM/PWM generator/ADC/and DAC…the DAC and PWM you can setupt trought he protocol and read the values over the AUX/ADC pins of the Bus Pirate as well…

    The PIC based design is clever. It’s kind of funny how good of a solution to cost it is, as it seems like the sort of simple : over-complication that I am prone to. Duh, use an MCU in place of individual components. But there is something satisfyingly educational for a beginner like myself, to physically work with each individual device and its associated protocol, as opposed to designating a single Microcontroller to act as the multilingual.

    It seems like the new design would teach the principals of interaction by the various buses in a different way. Perhaps its insignificant, but the initialization of communication through sending a signal to an IC or by enabling it to occur programmatically, both offer a valuable yet differing experience. I look for forward to working with the PIC version after finished learning all that V3 has to teach me.

    It’s an exciting and rewarding wisdom to seek; the ways in which technology speaks. Such subtle differences in dialect between individual protocols, capable of manufacturing & understanding messages of its own design and interfacing love lorn components on PCBs everywhere! What a joy to listen to them speak, all thanks to the Bus Pirate: The tower of babel for integrated circuitry.
