Flashrom 0.9.4 released

in Chips by Ian | 5 comments

Mattias inform us of the release of flashrom 0.9.4, which works with the Bus Pirate :

Flashrom is a utility for reading, writing, erasing and verifying flash ROM chips.

Flashrom is designed to flash BIOS/EFI/coreboot/firmware/optionROM images on mainboards, network/graphics/storage controller cards, and various programmer devices. It can do so without any special boot procedures and from your normal working environment. After over nine years of development and constant improvement, we have added support for every BIOS flash ROM technology present on x86 mainboards and every flash ROM chip we ever saw in the wild.

Anyone have a part number for that SOIC8 socket? Is this something that can be ordered from Mouser? I’m looking for something that will actually fit over a SMD Flashrom in circuit, and can then be used for programming. So, actually I suppose that wouldn’t be called a socket but might have a different name.

@rsdio – my question also… I really could have used this last time I used Flashrom with my BusPirate(beats soldering wirewrap wire to smd devices !).

That socket seems to be available at bios-repair.co.uk (http://bios-repair.co.uk/Products/SMD-Sockets.html). Haven’t been able to find it anywhere else though, but there are soic/sot/qfn sockets available at http://www.wvshare.com cheaper than those at digikey.

The 2 sites I mentioned should ship to ME. Another site that has a lower price is Adafruit. You can also search for SMT Test Clip if you need to hook to soldered part as opposed to loose part.
